VANISHING LINE

SERIES COMPOSED OF 13 DRAWINGS

COLOURED PENCIL ON RICE PAPER

VARIABLE FORMATS

2021

During his architectural studies in the early 1980s, my father travelled extensively in Europe and Asia, taking photographs of various urban landscapes. The resulting slides were kept for forty years without ever being seen again. The places photographed were forgotten. At the time they were photographed, these buildings were relatively new and specific to certain urban areas. Now that they are widespread, they are no longer sufficient in themselves to be located. I'm questioning the blind trust we place in photography as a means of remembering a fragment of the world. The yellow pencil on white paper makes these drawings resistant to photography. They too are difficult to capture in their entirety, and constantly escape the eye. One has to move around them to catch the line of pigment in the right light, letting it unfurl and reveal an image that is always elusive.
